Reconnecting with mentors: gratitude and rediscovery.

I've recently reconnected with my high school art teacher, Gabby Russomagno. I remember taking her photography class (the film kind) in high school. Gabby, with her keen eye and understanding, told me something along the lines of, "You suck in a dark room. You're great at Photoshop. You should think about graphic design." That interaction set the trajectory of my career.

Recently, Gabby and I started having meaningful discussions every six weeks. During one of my travels back to Philadelphia earlier this year, I asked if we could catch up. She agreed, and we ended up having a three-hour conversation.

I can't overstate how much these conversations have enriched my creative mindset. They've been unexpected and delightful, and they've made me realize the importance of reconnecting with those who have guided us.

So, I want to thank Gabby explicitly. Thank you. You were instrumental early in my career, setting me on this trajectory. This reconnection has been more than just nostalgic; it's been rejuvenating. Eventually, we'll run out of meaningful discussion, or we won't. That's cool with me.

I encourage everyone serious about their craft to reach out to those who guided them. These mentors influenced your life once, and they might have more to offer you now. Mentors often guide out of a passion for teaching, frequently at the expense of their own financial gain. Take notice of their potential impact on your life now.

I hope you've had inspiring individuals in your life. Reach out to them, thank them, and see where the journey takes you.
