Good Enough is Better

Presentation and workshop given at Re:Design/UXD Brooklyn.

Good Enough is Better

I was fortunate enough to be invited to talk at Re:Design/UXD 2014 at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg Brooklyn. The theme for 2014 is "better." How do we make products, processes, companies, and our experiences better?

I wanted to focus my presentation on the recent regression of web sites not using the tools the browser gives you:

History is repeating itself on the web. HTML 5 and advanced Javascript frameworks have made almost anything possible. This lack of constraint leads to sites breaking the tools of the web browser. We're following a similar pattern to when Macromedia Flash became a pervasive and trendy technology a few years ago.
In this talk we will outline both of these trends, and look to old designers like Saul Bass and Dieter Rams for principals in navigating a world without constraints. We will end by going through a workshop to apply some of these principals.

Christina Wodtke was the conference symposiarch and she picked an amazing location for the conference. The Wythe Hotel has amazing interior and exterior views of Manhattan.
